About The Founder

The story of Reflux Diet is deeply intertwined with my personal journey. I'm Mel John, the founder.

My experience with reflux started back in 2016 after a bout of food poisoning. Although a direct connection wasn't confirmed by doctors, I now recognize that it stemmed from years of unhealthy eating habits, including processed foods.

Even with advice on what to avoid, I struggled and relied heavily on the PPI medication, Nexium. In 2018, a conversation with my manager, who also dealt with reflux, alerted me to the risks of long-term PPI use. This motivated me to cut back on PPIs and embrace a healthier diet, which significantly improved my well-being.

I began chronicling my dietary transformation on Instagram under the handle 'Reflux Diet,' offering free tips and insights to help others sidestep the pitfalls I encountered as captured by a couple pictures from Instagram posts.

At a certain point I admitted to myself that I couldn't juggle my growing family, external responsibilities, and the demands of managing Reflux Diet, so I took a break from posting. However, my passion for preparing nutritious meals for my kids and my curiosity about health topics like the microbiome fueled my pursuit of nutrition.

About The Business

After speaking with a friend, business owner and fellow refluxer, I now have a small part-time team along for this awesome journey where we were able re-launch with new ideas.

We're excited to offer you resources that will help fund my pursuit of a certification in nutritional science. This certification will enable me to gather more insights and reinvest them into additional resources for you. Reflux Diet now boasts a revamped appearance and website, along with plans to release e-books and/or books bi-annually. These resources are genuinely designed to assist individuals dealing with acid reflux, staying true to our original mission.
